Understanding Autographs Beatles section Certificate COA's
Do not buy from... Ebay & Internet Contact Us
  Introduction

In this part of the website we will endeavour to answer the questions that we are most often asked on the subject of autographs.

It is very important to remember that experts agree that possibly over 80 % of all autographs sold are fake.  So if you are an inexperienced buyer there is an 8 /10 chance that you will buy a non genuine item.  This is a frightening statistic and you are unlikely to discover this until you try to resell the item possibly many years later through a professional dealer.
I receive phone calls and emails every day with “I think I might have bought a fake autograph… what can I do?” 95 % of such people are very unlikely to get their money back; irrespective of what those precious COA’s say.  The answer is do some research; it is easy nowadays with the internet to find the answers you need.  If you click on the following links you can “educate yourself” into avoiding making that expensive mistake.  These mistakes are nearly impossible to rectify after the event.

Now take some time to read the sections above; advice that most professionals would charge for!
  • a) UACC – Universal Autograph Collectors Club. The largest and most respected worldwide autographs club. There are 250 worldwide registered dealers. (Only 35 in the UK) A list of these and club rules can be found at www.uacc.org. However their UACC membership is a confusing term. Anybody can become a UACC member and because of the UACC reputation, some of these “members” have used this to become bogus dealers. Beware of some bogus UACC members selling on internet auction sites.
  • b) PADA (Professional Autograph Dealers Association) – Highly respected group of professional dealers. www.padaweb.org
  • c) IADA (Internet autograph dealers association) Group of dealers selling only “in person” obtained items. www.iada.net
  • d) ACOGB – The Autograph Club Of GB has now been operating for 10 years, meeting a host of stars in that time, our website www.acogb.co.uk   is designed for collectors to share information via our new forum, also we try to educate collectors about forgeries and other fakes, while at the same time supporting in person collecting, and trading/swapping autographs with others. The forum is designed to for visitors to add their comments, but if they sign up (free) they can join in with other topics. We act as a third party between autograph dealers who we have listed on our links site or front page logo/links, should there be a dispute between buyer and sellers. However we do not enter into legal matters. We offer support and encourage new collectors to the hobby as well as helping the professionals among us. we have over 15 years experience in the trade. Come and check us out today!
