With the huge increases in values and interest of autographed memorabilia has come a huge proliferation in the numbers of dealers selling it.
Over the past 10 years hundreds of “expert dealers” have surfaced overnight selling from shops / auction sites and websites. In truth most know nothing about the subject and have no genuine love for the hobby.“Get yourself a plausible name / a nice logo / a website / print yourself some COA’s / get a P O box number / buy some standard trade stock at the lowest price possible on eBay / get some frames / quadruple the cost / give a lifetime guarantee / assume every customer is a mug and away you go.”In business and in most cases unregulated….. sadly many customers do not do enough research or ask enough questions and they will be ripped off.
Think about the following –
a) Who am I buying from?
b) What is the expertise / reputation of the seller
c) Can I trust him? What is my gut feeling?
d) Is he a member or registered dealer of a recognized autograph club?
e) How long has the dealer been in business selling autographs?
f) Is the seller easily contactable i.e. Telephone Num, address etc.?
g) Is the seller offering a Certificate of Authenticity?
