A E MATTHEWS d1960. English stage & film actor whose career spanned eight decades often playing crotchety rascal old men. His best known films include ; Carry on Admiral / Doctor at Large / Around The World in 80 Days / Life and Death of Colonel Blimp and The Million Pound Note. He made national news headlines (aged 89) by sitting on the pavement outside his home for several days and nights in a protest about streetlamp design. This incident was immortalised by Spike Milligan in a 1958 Episode of The Goon Show
