Alfred Munnings

SIR ALFRED MUNNINGS d1959. Widely recognised to be one of Englands finest horse painters and as an outspoken enemy of modernist art. Engaged by Lord Beaverbrooks War Memorial Fund he earned several prestigious commissions after The Great War that made him wealthy. His works hung in the best houses throughout the world and became especially collectable in the USA. He was knighted in 1944 and after his death in 1959 his Dedham home became a museum of his life. The highest price to date of a Munnings painting was achieved in 2004 at Sotherbys New York ; Lot 30 "Red Prince Mare" sold for $7,848,000 USD.
