KRAYS. Twin brothers and the foremost organised crime leaders in Londons East End during the 1950s and 60s. They had a dishonorable discharge from National Service in the early 1950s and their subsequent criminal records ended their fledgling boxing careers. They turned succesfully to crime including hijacking / armed robbery and arson which allowed them to open and acquire an empire of prosperous nightclubs. They became celebritys and part of The Swinging London scene. As career criminals their luck ran out and they were arrested on 9th May 1968 ; many witnesses came forward and the police obtained easy convictions. Ron and Reg were sentenced to life imprisonment and brother Charlie 10 years for his part. Charlie served 7 years and then returned to prison in 1997 for conspiracy. Ron a paranoid schizophrenic died in prison in 1995. Reg died in hospital a free man in 2000. Charlie died six months later again in 2000.
