Description:

1) AL BOWLLY d1941. Outstanding British Jazz singer widely regarded to have been the inventor of crooning and of being probably the first actual pop star. A prolific artist he made over 1000 recordings during his 15 year career. He was killed in The London Blitz aged 42 in April 1941.

2) RAY NOBLE d1978. English composer and leader of the HMV records studio band from 1929 better known as The New Mayfair Dance Orchestra. Their most celebrated vocalist of the period was Al Bowlly. Ray Nobles best known compositions include ; Love Is The Sweetest Thing / The Very Thought Of You and Isle Of Capri.

3) LEW STONE d1969. British bandleader and arranger of the famous dance-band era. The Roy Fox Band opened at the Monseigneur Restaurant in 1931 and Lew Stone took up the position of pianist and arranger. When Roy Fox became ill in October, he was sent to Switzerland to rest and he assumed leadership of the band. The main vocalist at the Monseigneur was the very popular Al Bowlly who had already sung on over 30 recordings ......

4) ROY FOX d1982. American dance bandleader whose period of greatest popularity came during his years performing in England during the 1930s British dance band era, working with Al Bowlly and Lew Stone. 

A superb set of  vintage 1930s autograph book pages, clearly signed in ink by Al Bowlly (adding with tons of luck) / Ray Noble (dated 1934) / Roy Fox (adding best wishes) and Lew Stone (adding best wishes).

 

 

Certification:

From the vintage 1930s autograph book of Bill Oxman of Blackpool, containing many notables of the period. He was a specialist map printer by trade whose work took him all over the UK during this period, allowing him access to celebrities and build his fine collection.
