ALFRED HITCHCOCK d1980. Iconic and highly influential British filmmaker and producer who pioneered many techniques in suspense and psychological thrillers. He directed more than 50 feature film in a career spanning six decades from the silent era to the colour era. Sixteen of his films earning Oscar nominations. He remains one of the most popular and recognisable of all filmmakers ; ranked by the AFI as the greatest of all time with four of his films listed in the Top 10 mysterys ever. His best known films include ; Rebecca 1940 / Spellbound 1945 / Rope 1948 / Under Capricorn 1949 / Stage Fright 1950 / Rear Window 1954 / Dial M for Murder 1954 / To Catch a Thief 1955 / Vertigo 1958 / North by Northwest 1959 / Psycho 1950 / The Birds 1963 / Frenzy 1972. He was knighted in 1980 the year he died aged 80 in California.
