A desirable 1960 first edition of "Giselle and I", clearly signed with dedication on the inside page in ballpoint ; "For dear Sister Henley. With all my good wishes and very sincere thanks always Alicia Markova 1962".

The book is in good condition and includes the original dustcover.


CERTIFICATION ; The seller was given the signed book by a member of  Sister Cathy Lorraine Henleys family. Sister Henley worked in the medical profession and we understand was the assistant to The Queens own gynaecologist  Sir George Pinker during the 1950s. Alicia Markova

DAME ALICIA MARKOVA autograph d2004. English ballerina choreographer director and teacher of classical ballet. She is most noted for her career with Sergei Diaqhilevs Ballet Russes and touring internationally. Widely considered to be one of the greatest classical dancers of the 20th century. She was the first British dancer to become the principal dancer of a ballet company and along with Dame Margot Fonteyn, is one of only two English dancers to be recognised as a prima ballerina assoluta. She died following a stroke aged 94 in 2004.
