BARBRA STREISAND. American singer, songwriter, actress and filmmaker. In a career spanning six decades, she has become an icon in multiple fields of entertainment, which earned her recognition as the "Queen of The Divas". She is the winner of multiple awards including ; two Academy Awards / ten Grammys / five Emmys / a Tony / a Peabody and nine Golden Globes. She is one of the best selling music artists of all time with more than 68 million albums sold in the USA and a total of 145 million records sold worldwide. After beginning a successful recording career in the 1960s, she ventured into film at the end of the decade. She starred in the critically acclaimed Funny Girl (winning both the Academy and Golden Globe Awards for best actress). Other notable films include ; The Owl and The Pussycat / The Way We Were / A Star is Born for which she received a second Academy Award for the love theme "Evergreen". With the release of Yentl in 1983, she became the first woman to write, produce, direct and star in a major studio film. It won an Oscar for Best Score and a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Musical and she also received the the Best Director Golden Globe (the first and to date only woman to win that award). The RIAA and Billboard recognize Streisand as holding the record for the most Top 10 albums of any female recording artist : a total of 34 since 1963. Also according to Billboard, she holds the record for being the female with the most Number One albums (11). She is the only recording artist to have a No1 album in each of the last six decades (having released 53 gold albums / 31 platinum albums and 14 multi-platinum albums in the United States alone).
