Barnes Wallis

SIR BARNES WALLIS (CBE FRS RDI FRAeS) d1979. English scientist, engineer and inventor. He will forever be remembered for inventing the bouncing bomb used by the RAF in Operation Chastise (The Dambusters Raid) to attack the dams of the Ruhr Valley during WW2. The legendary raid was the subject of the 1955 film The Dam Busters in which Wallis was played by Michael Redgrave. Among his other inventions were the geodetic airframes and the earthquake bomb. He died aged 92 in 1979
