Benny Lynch

BENNY LYNCH d1946. Scottish flyweight professional boxer widely considered to be one of the finest boxers below the lightweight division of his era. He has been described as the greatest fighter Scotland ever produced. (119 fights / 88 wins / 14 losses / 17 draws). Ring Magazine rated him as the No5 flyweight of all-time while his publication placed him 63rd in its 2002 list of the "Best Fighters of the Last 80 Years". He was elected to the Ring Magazine hall of fame in 1986 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1998. He battled with alcoholism during later life and died aged just 33 on August 6th 1946 of malnutrition-induced respiratory failure. 2000 people attended his funeral
