Bill Haley

Bill Haley

BILL HALEY and THE COMETS. American Rock and Roll Musician credited by many for being the first to really popularize this form of music in the mid 1950s. Along with his group The Comets his major hits included ; "Rock Around The Clock" and "See Ya Later Alligator". Blinded in one eye as a child in a bungled operation, he adopted his famous kiss curl to divert attention away from this. A self professed alcoholic who battled the demon drink all his life, he played his final performance in South Africa in June 1980. He died of a brain tumour aged just 55 on February 9th 1981.
