About Blondie

Blondie

BLONDIE. American punk / new wave band whose lead singer Debbie Harry is one of the most recognisable female popstar faces of all time. The group enjoyed huge initial success in 1978 with their LP "Parallel Lines" and later scored six UK No1 hit singles including ; Heart of Glass / Atomic / Sunday Girl and Maria (1997). Blondie first disbanded in 1982 due to tensions within the band and a serious mystery illness to songwriter Chris Stein ; they reformed in 1997 and continue to tour today. To date the group have sold an estimated 60 million records.

One of an absolutely outstanding mostly in-person autograph collection of over 500 items obtained by JD in Brighton & London during the late 1970's to 1990s. The majority being pop music acts of the period, along with actors and entertainers. The autographs are on records / fanzine magazine photographs and autograph book pages. Many are dedicated along with messages to the collector (Jonathan) and include dates & venues where they were obtained. There is a copy of a letter from him included (if required) that details his almost obsessive collecting exploits and memories of the time. Description:

A very good large 1999 autograph book page, clearly signed in markers by all four members of the group from this period ; Debbie Harry / Chris Stein / Jimmy Destri and Clem Burke (adding 1999).

Suitable for mounting and display.

Certification:

CERTIFICATION ; One of a huge collection of over 1000 autographs in around a dozen large books all obtained in person (between 1990-1999 mostly in the Manchester area) by husband and wife Tony & Kath (many autographs are personally dedicated / dated to them with messages of thanks from the artists). The majority of signatures are of the major pop-groups of the period (including many Brit-Pop) signed at the various Manchester music venues (The Apollo / Nymex Arena / The Academy / G-Mex Centre and The University Union) and also at festivals (the T-Festival Strathclyde 1995-97). From the notes / dedications within the books and the difficult accessibility into such premium venues & concerts, we believe the couple must have worked in positions that gave / allowed them back-stage access during the period. Blondie played the Manchester Apollo on November 22nd 1999 during the No Exit Tour. The position / number of this page within the books and our research leads us to conclude that this is likely to be the actual signing date for this autograph. IAA. Suitable for mounting and display.

Both Frank Infante and Nigel Harrison left the group in 1982 when they split for the first time. They were rather acrimoniously not invited back when Blondie reformed in 1997.

The record sleeve is in good condition with record included. All signatures are clearly readable. Desirable to find signatures from their prime period on a single sleeve.

CERTIFICATION ; Union City Blue was released in late 1979 and reached No13 in the UK Charts. The original seller remembered queuing for five hours to get this record signed at an offical store signing in Kensington High Street London in late 1979. The group were in the UK December 1979- January 1980 on tour and promoting the Eat To The Beat LP ; so we can conclude that this must have been signed during this period.
