Booker T & The MG's
BOOKER T & THE MGs. Highly influential Instrumental Stax Records R&B band responsible for shaping the sound of Southern and Memphis Soul. During the 1960s (as members of the house band of Stax Records) they played on hundreds of recordings by artists including ; Otis Redding / Wilson Pickett / Sam & Dave and Carla Thomas. They also released instrumental records under their own name, including the classic 1962 hit single "Green Onions". Their drummer Al Jackson Jr, nicknamed "The Human Timekeeper" and described by co-band member Steve Cropper as "The greatest drummer ever to walk the earth" was murdered in his own house aged just 50 in 1975. He was fatally shot five times in the back by intruders in his home on the evening of "The Thrilla In Manilla" Ali-Frazier fight. The remaining group members continue to occasionally tour together to the present day .............
