Buster Crabbe

BUSTER CRABBE d1983. American athlete and actor of the 1930-40s, famous for being the only person to play the top three syndicated comic-strip heroes of the decade ; Tarzan / Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. After winning the 1932 Olympic Gold Medal for 400m freestyle swimming, he got his break into acting. His role as "Tarzan" in Tarzan The Fearless (1933) began a career in which he starred in more than one hundred movies. Most notably playing Flash Gordon in the 1936 Flash Gordon science fiction serial over thirteen instalments and Buck Rogers in Buck Rogers (1939). His career declined during the 1950-60s and he became a successful businessman. He died of a heart attack aged 75 in 1983 after tripping over a waste-bucket at his home in Arizona.
