THE CHARLATANS. English indie rock band active 1989-present. In the UK, all of the band's eleven studio albums have charted in the Top 40 (including three of them being No1) ; Some Friendly (1990) / The Charlatans (1995) and Tellin Stories (1997). They have also achieved seventeen Top 30 singles and four Top 10 hits in the UK charts. Keyboardist Rob Collins (1989–1996) died in a car accident aged just 33 during recording of their fifth album and drummer Jon Brookes (1989-2013) died in 2013 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2010.
