Charles Crichton

CHARLES CRICHTON d1999. English film director and editor who became best known for directing many comedies produced at Ealing Studios. He had a 40-year career editing and directing many films and television programmes. For his final film (the acclaimed 1988 comedy A Fish Called Wanda) he was nominated for both the Academy Award for Best Director and the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay (along with the film's star John Cleese). He died in London aged 89 on September 14th 1999
