THE CLASH. English punk rock band active between 1976-1986 who also enjoyed considerable success in the USA. They are best remembered for classic hit singles ; Complete Control / London Calling / Should I Stay Or Should I Go and Rock The Casbah. Their 1979 LP "London Calling" was released to much critical acclaim and is acknowledged to be one of the best albums of the period. The lineup of the group remained consistent throughout other than the drummers ; Terry Chimes (left 1977 returned 1982) and Topper Headon (1977 to 1982). Rolling Stone magazine rank them as the 30th best pop group of all time. Lead singer Joe Strummer suddenly died from a heart-attack in 2002 aged just 50.
