DAPHNE DU MAURIER d1989. British author and playright famous for her works that became adapted into classic films including ; "Rebecca" (which won The Best Picture Oscar in 1941) / "Jamaica Inn" (1939) / "The Birds" (1963) and "Don't Look Now" (1973). The first three notably all directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Du Maurier was a reclusive and rarely gave interviews or mixed in society. However those closest to her remembered her being a warm, welcoming and most amusing hostess at her home in Cornwall. She died in Cornwall aged 81 in 1989.
