DOCTOR ZHIVAGO. 1965 British-Italian epic romantic drama film, distributed by MGM and directed by David Lean. It was set in Russia between the years prior to World War I and the Russian Civil War of 1917-22 and was based on the Boris Pasternak novel. It won five Oscars at the 38th Academy Awards and was nominated for another five (losing out to The Sound of Music). As os 2016 it was the 8th highest grossing film in history adjusting for ticket price inflation.
