ED SULLIVAN d1975. Legendary American TV host best known as the presenter of The Ed Sullivan Show which broadcast between 1948-1971. Despite his famous deadpan mannerisms, he became known as a star-maker for the pop acts of the period giving many their first early breaks on national television. A major coup for him was the first live American appearance of The Beatles on February 9th 1964 which was to become one of the most watched programmes in TV history
