ELIZABETH R d2022. The Queen of England, The Supreme Governor of The Church Of England, the figurehead of the 54-member Commonwealth Of Nations and the constitutional monarch of sixteen sovereign states known as The Commonwealth. Elizabeth was born in London and educated privately at home. Her father ascended the throne as George VI in 1936 on the abdication of his brother Edward VIII. In 1947 she married Prince Philip (The Duke Of Edinburgh) with whom she had four children ; Charles / Anne / Andrew and Edward. When her father died in 1952, Elizabeth became Queen. Her Coronation Service in 1953 was the first to be televised. Her silver, golden, diamond and platinum jubilees were celebrated in 1977 / 2002 / 2012 and 2022. The longest-lived and longest-ever reigning British monarch at 70 years and 214 days. A remarkable woman who devoted her whole life to extraordinary public service. Despite many controversaries surrounding the Royal Family, especially during the 1990s, her huge personal popularity has remained constant. Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh retired from his royal duties on August 2nd 2017 (at the age of 96) having completed 22,219 solo engagements and 5,493 speeches from 1952. He died at Windsor Castle on April 9th 2021 just two months short of his 100th birthday. Elizabeth died aged 96 at Balmoral Castle Aberdeenshire on 8th September 2022 and was succeeded by her eldest son, Charles III. Her state funeral was the first held in Britain since that of Winston Churchill in 1965
