ENGLAND WORLD CUP SQUAD 1966. The World Cup Final was played on July 30th 1966 at Wembley Stadium. It remains the greatest day in Englands football history with England famously defeating West Germany 4-2 after extra time ; the match remembered for a stunning Geoff Hurst hatrick (18 / 101 and 120 mins) and the controversial third "did it cross the line goal". The match was watched by 98000 spectators and the biggest UK TV audience ever of 32 million.
