FRED ASTAIRE and GINGER ROGERS. Legendary American dance partnership of the 1930s who in making ten films together revolutionised the musical-dance genre of the period. Classic high-grossing films for RKO included ; Roberta / Top Hat / Follow The Fleet / Swing Time / Shall We Dance and Carefree. Katherine Hepburn was once quoted as saying ; "He gives her class and she gives him sex appeal". Fred Astaire d1987 whose unparalled skill as a dancer, led the critics to describe him as the best ever out of Hollywood ; enjoyed a career spanning 76 years making 31 musical films. He is named by the AFI as the fifth greatest male star of all time. He died of pneumonia aged 88 in 1987. His partner Ginger Rogers d1995 also enjoyed a long and successful career making 73 films. She died of heart failure aged 83 in 1995.
