Girls Aloud

GIRLS ALOUD. British singing girl group that were created through the ITV Talent Show Popstars The Rivals in 2002. Their debut single "Sound Of The Underground" spent four weeks at number one and has been credited with reshaping British pop music for the 2000s. The group have to date achieved a string of twenty consecutive top ten singles including four number ones ; Sound Of The Underground / Ill Stand By You 2004 / Walk This Way 2007 / The Promise 2008 of and two number one albums in the United Kingdom. They hold the record for "Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group" in the 2008 edition and are credited again for being the "Most Successful Reality TV Group" in the 2011 edition. The band went on hiatus in 2009. During this break , all five girls have taken part in a variety of projects and bandmember Cheryl Cole has become a solo performer and major TV celebrity in her own right. A reunion can be expected in 2012 for the group's tenth anniversary.
