About

About Glitter Band

Glitter Band

THE GLITTER BAND. Originally the supporting band of English glam-rock singer Gary Glitter known as "The Leader". Gary Glitter had a string of UK Top Ten hits during the 1970s, including ; "Rock N Roll" / "I Love You Love Me Love" / "The Leader of The Gang (I Am)" / "Hello Hello I'm Back Again" / "Your Beautiful" and "Another Rock N Roll Christmas". The Glitter Band (without their leader) scored many notable hits of their own between 1973-76 including ; Angel Face / The Tears I Cried For You / Goodbye My Love and People Like You. Gary Glitter got his first break when film producer Robert Hartford Davis discovered an eighteen year old Paul Gadd and financed a recording session for Decca Records. He recorded his first album under the stage name Paul Raven and then released his first single, "Alone in the Night" in January 1960. A year later with a new manager Vic Billings, he signed a new recording contract with Parlophone and worked with producer George Martin before his now legendary association with The Beatles. Martin produced two singles "Walk on By" and "Tower of Strength", but neither sold very well and Raven's recording career reached an impasse. By 1964, while Martin's work with the Beatles was conquering the world, Raven was reduced to playing warm-up roles for the British television programme Ready Steady Go. After years of struggling during the late 1960s Paul Raven met arranger-producer Mike Leander who eventually helped revive his career after changing his name to "Gary Glitter" in 1971. The rest as they say is history .....
