About Googie Withers & John Mccallum

Googie Withers & John Mccallum

GOOGIE WITHERS and JOHN McCALLUM autographs. English stage film actress of the 1930-40s who became a resident of Australia after marrying actor John McCallum. During the 1930s, Withers was constantly in demand in lead roles in minor films and supporting roles in more prestigious productions. Her best known work of the period was as one of Margaret Lockwoods friends in Hitchcocks "The Lady Vanishes" (1938). Among her successes of the 1940s was One Of Our Aircraft is Missing (1942), but she is still best remembered for her role as the devious Helen Nosseross in the classic film-noir Night and The City (1950). While filming The Loves of Joanna Godden (1947), she met and married her co-star Australian actor John McCallum. They remained together until his death aged 91 in 2010 ; she lived just one year later to the age of 94.
