H G Wells

H G WELLS d1946. English author often referred to as "The Father Of Science Fiction". A prolific writer for over 60 years in many genres including novels, history and an often outspoken pacifist in politics and social commentary. He is however best known for his early science fiction work which includes classics ; The Time Machine (1895) / The Island of Doctor Moreau (1896) / The Invisible Man (1897) and The First Men In The Moon (1901). His later best sellers include ; The Outline In History (1920) / The Science Of Life (1930) and The Shape Of Things To Come (1933). He spent his final years venting his frustration on various establishment targets and predicting man's potential catastrophes including the outbreak of WW2. He died of natural causes in London on 13th August 1946 aged 79, amusingly stating that his epitalph should read "I told you so ...you damned fools ..."

Certification:

From the autograph book of J Hudson who was an Assistant Purser on the SS Queen Mary. Many of the autographs are dated 1938 and some have added notation Re Queen Mary (See Code 9442 Mary Pickford). AFTAL Dealer No13 and UACC RD Memorabilia UK COA.

An original vintage 1941 autograph book page, clearly signed and dated in pencil "H G Wells Oct 8 41".

 

Certification:

One of a superb collection of autographs all obtained by Phyllis Baker who worked for Warner Bros as an usherette at The Odeon Leicester Square London between 1938 and 1958. Includes a short typed email detailing the history from her family and a copy of a photograph of her actually working in the cinema. AFTAL Dealer No13 and UACC RD Memorabilia UK COA.
