Hattie Jacques

HATTIE JACQUES d1980. English comedy actress who first found fame on radio with Tommy Handley during the 1940s and later in Hancocks Half Hour. She is however best known for appearing in 14 Carry On films, playing such classic roles as a rotund Hospital Matron between 1958-1974. She also had a long-running TV partnership during the 1960-70s with Eric Sykes d2012. She died of a heart attack aged just 58 in 1980.
