HAWKWIND. English rock band and one of the earliest of the space-rock groups. Their lyrics favour urban & science fiction themes and are considered to be a key link between hippie and punk cultures. They are primarily known for playing "space-rock", a hybrid of hard-rock and acid-rock that united the sonic power of the former and the free improvisation of the latter. Formed in November 1969, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and styles of music. Dozens of musicians, dancers and writers have worked with the group since their inception. Between 1970-1975, the group were contracted to Liberty / UA, producing their most commercially successful and critically acclaimed work ; five studio albums (including the UK No9 live album Space Ritual) and five singles including the classic UK 1972 No3 single "Silver Machine" ..........
