HEDY LAMARR d2000. Austrian-American actress probably best known for her role in Samson and Delilah (1949), but widely regarded to have been one of the most beautiful women ever to appear on the Silver Screen. She caused a sensation in 1933, becoming the first actress to appear nude in cinematic history in "Ecstasy". In later life, she became a scientist and in 1942 patented the Spread Spectrum for radio waves implemented by the US Navy in 1962 ; the idea still of relevance today in all "wireless" communications. She was married six times. She died in Florida on 19th January 2000 aged 85.
