JACK COHEN d1979. English grocer who founded the Tesco supermarket chain. Founded in 1919, he created the brand name in 1924 and the first Tesco named shops opened in 1932. He died in London aged 80 on March 24th 1979. As of 2020 Tesco had over 7000 stores and by revenue was the ninth largest retailer in the world
