JACK DEMPSEY d1983. American boxer known as "The Manassa Mauler" who held the World Heavyweight boxing title between 1919 (defeating Jess Willard) and 1926 (losing to Gene Tunney). His aggressive style and punching power made him one of the most popular boxers in history and many of his fights set new attendance records and financial receipts for the period. He is listed as The 7th Greatest Boxer in history with a career record of 83 fights / 66 Wins / 51 KOs / 6 losses and 11 draws. He died of natural causes aged 87 in May 1983. With his wife by his side he told her ; "Don't Worry Honey, I am too mean to die ....."
