JESSICA TANDY d1994. English-American stage and film actress who first appeared on the London stage aged 16 in 1926 alongside Olivier and Gielgud. Following the end of her marriage to Jack Hawkins she married Canadian actor Hume Cronyn. She later became the oldest actress to receive the Academy Award for Best Actress for "Driving Miss Daisy" in 1989 and was also nominated in 1991 for "Fried Green Tomatoes". At the height of her success, she was named as one of Peoples "50 Most Beautiful People". She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1990, but continued working until shortly before her death aged 85 in 1994
