About Joe Davis & Horace Lindrum

Joe Davis & Horace Lindrum

JOE DAVIS d1978. British professional snooker and billiards player. Unbeaten 15 times World Snooker Champion between 1927-1946 and World Billiards Champion 1928-1932. The first  World Champion in 1927 winning £6.10s and the first man ever to score a maximum (147) in an exhibition tournament in 1955. He died aged 77 in 1978. HORACE LINDRUM d1974. Australian snooker and billiards player. He competed and was runner-up in the World Professional Snooker title against Joe Davis five times, finally winning the title in the 1951/1952 season (against reigning World Professional Billiards Champion Clark McConarchy) by a score of 94–49. Lindrum described the 143-frame final played over two weeks as the toughest battle of his career. However, due to a boycott of the tournament by most of the game's professionals in favour of the World Matchplay competition, his triumph is often overlooked. He died aged 62 in 1974.
