John Bonham

JOHN BONHAM d1980. English drummer and songwriter with the legendary rock group Led Zeppelin. Reverred & esteemed for his speed, power, fast right foot, distinctive sound and "feel" for the groove. He is widely considered to be the greatest drummer in the history of rock music by many musicians and commentators in the industry. On September 24th 1980, he was picked up by Led Zeppelin assistant Rex King to attend rehearsals at Bray Studios for an upcoming tour of the US, the band's first since 1977. During the journey, he asked to stop for breakfast, where he reputedly drank four quadruple vodkas. He then continued to drink heavily after arriving at the rehearsals. A halt was called to these rehearsals late in the evening and the band retired to Jimmy Page's house. John Bonham was found the following afternoon dead in bed by John Paul Jones, he was aged just 32. A verdict of accidental death was returned at an inquest held on 27th October
