LOUIS ARMSTRONG d1971. American Jazz trumpeter and singer nicknamed "Satchmo" whose extraordinary career originating from the 1930s made him one of the most famous and recognisable musicians of the 20th Century.  A charismatic innovative performer whose inspired improvisation completely changed the face of Jazz music in popular culture. He died of a heart attack on July 6th 1971 aged 69 after playing a famous show at The Waldorf Empire.
