Her best remembered film roles ; "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (1953) / "The Seven Year Itch" (1955) / "Bus Stop" (1956) and "Some Like it Hot" (1959). Every part of her personal and professional life has been the subject of conjecture and controversy. She married three times, supposedly had numerous high profile affairs and her well-documented life on film sets was never dull ..... She was famously found dead at her home on August 5th 1962 aged just 36 ; the suspicious circumstances of her death classified as ... "probable suicide" ... and remain the subject of many continuing conspiracy theories. A Colonial Trust Company Marilyn Monroe Productions Inc cheque (dated July 15th 1960) for $2750.00 made out in type to Joseph Carr with all the usual Bank Paid stamps on the front and rear ; clearly signed to the bottom right in ballpoint by Marilyn Monroe as the Authorized Signature. The cheque is counter signed on the reverse by Joseph Carr for deposit Carr and Company. Joseph Carr was Marilyn Monroe Productions Inc accountant.

The cheque is clearly signed to the bottom right in blue ballpoint , Marilyn Monroe as the Authorized Signature. The cheque signed just 14 months before her death.

Weissberger & Frosch were well known prominent American theatrical lawyers of the period , the cheque obviously relates to a tax payment made by Monroes company. An original Marilyn Monroe Productions Inc cheque in fine condition (dated February 26th 1960) for $1231.91 USD made out in type to Beverly Hills Hotel with all the usual bank payment / clearance stamps on the front and rear. The cheque is clearly signed by Marilyn Monroe to the bottom right in black ink, Marilyn Monroe as the Authorized Signature.

Major events in Monroes life in 1960 include ; February 9th (Awarded Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame) / March 8th (Receives a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy for "Some Like It Hot") / June (Begins seeing psychoanaylst on a daily basis) / July (Starts filming The Misfits) / August (Flies to LA following a nervous breakdown whilst filming The Misfits) / October (Her and Arthur Miller agree to divorce) / November (Finishes filming The Misfits).

BONUS ; Included in the sale are three very interesting original Beverly Hills Hotel Bungalows invoice cards in the name of Arthur Miller and Mrs Roxbury Comm Info Monroe rooms B21 / 21A dated between February 6th 1960-February 12th 1960. Items on the bill include ; Restaurant / Telegram / Phone / Tip / Garage and Drugs. Balance as of Feb 6th ($1133.42) and as of Feb 12th ($1286.23) marked as paid. ALSO three further Beverly Hills Hotel Room 204 invoice cards for Feb 6th 1960-Feb 12th 1960 in the name of Marilyn Monroes personal secretary May Reis.

An original 1960 Marilyn Monroe Productions signed cheque which really authenticates itself.  The Beverly Hills Hotel 9641 West Sunset Blvd California was a favourite place for her to stay whilst filming in Los Angeles. She first lived there in 1952, again briefly in 1954 with Joe Dimaggio, again in 1958 when filming Some Like it Hot and for the last / longest time in 1960 (for four months) in bungalows B20 / B21 / B21A whilst filming Lets Make Love. The Millers shared neighbouring bungalows with her film co-star Yves Montand and his wife Simone Signoret. The hotel invoices included in the sale in the name of Arthur Miller / Mrs Roxbury Comm Info Monroe (Feb 6th 1960-Feb 12th 1960) relate to part of this stay. The signed cheque (dated two weeks later to the Beverly Hills Hotel) will also likely relate to settling her accounts during this stay. IAA. AFTAL Dealer No13 and UACC RD Memorabilia UK COA.

An extremely rare pair of autograph book pages, clearly signed in ink by all four main cast members ; Marilyn Monroe d1962 (Elsie Marina) / Laurence Olivier d1989 (Charles The Prince Regent) / Richard Wattis d1975 (Northbrook) and Jeremy Spenser (King Nicolas). ALSO an additional autograph book page signed in ballpoint by Sybil Thorndike d1976 who played The Queen Dowager.

AN ADDITIONAL BONUS is that one of the pages is also signed by prominent American playright Arthur Miller d2005 who was married to Marilyn Monroe between 1956-1961.

THE PRINCE AND THE SHOWGIRL. 1957 American romantic comedy film based on the Terence Rattigan play "The Sleeping Prince" starring Marilyn Monroe, directed and co-starring Laurence Olivier. The film was made at Pinewood Studios UK in 1956. It attracted mixed reviews, but was nominated for five BAFTAS ; Monroe winning best foreign actress and Olivier best British actor.

 

 

Certification:

From an outstanding autograph collection obtained in person by Lt Colonel Jiggs Jaeger of The Irish Guards who was their very well known Director Of Music during the 1950s and 60s. Members of his band formed part of the String Orchestra which actually played and appeared during the ballroom scene in The Prince and The Showgirl. Two of the signatures on the pages are dedicated to his daughter Maureen. There is also a photograph of her father on the filmset with Monroe and a short letter from Maureen herself detailing the history of the autographs included. Provenance really does not get any better than this ............  UACC RD Memorabilia UK COA
