MARVIN GAYE d1984. American singer songwriter instrumentalist with a famous three octave vocal range known as "The Prince of Soul". His solo career became as a session drummer with Tamla Motown in 1960. He became the labels top selling artist during the 1960s with classic hits including ; How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You / Ain't That Perculiar / I Heard It Through The Grapevine and duets with Mary Wells and Tammi Terrell. His 1970s work included ; Lets Get It On and I Want You.. After a self imposed exile in the early 1980s his career reignited with the Grammy Winning song Sexual Healing. He was shot dead by his father in an argument over his business affairs on April 1st 1984 aged just 44. His father who died in 1998 was sentenced to five years probation on a charge of voluntary manslaughter. He is ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as the 6th greatest singer of all time.
