Mary Ure

MARY URE d1975. Scottish film and stage actress married to actor Robert Shaw between 1963-1975. She is best known for her Academy Award nominated performance in "Sons and Lovers" (1960) and for playing Mary in the classic "Where Eagles Dare". Despite her professional successes and her ostensibly happy motherhood, she was an alcoholic which caused her mental health to deteriorate over the years. On April 2nd 1975, she appeared on the London stage in The Exorcism and after the opening night, she was found dead by her husband in her London home aged just 42, likely caused by an overdose of alcohol and barbiturate
