MICHAEL GOODLIFFE d1976. English actor of the 1950-60s best known for often playing army officers in films including ; The Wooden Horse (1950) / Rob Roy (1953) / The Battle of The River Plate (1956) / Carve Her Name With Pride (1958) / A Night to Remember (1958) / The 39 Steps (1959) / Sink The Bismarck (1960) / 633 Squadron (1964) and Von Ryans Express (1965). One of his final roles was playing Bill Tanner in The Man With The Golden Gun (1974). In later life he suffered with depression and he had a breakdown in 1976 during the period that he was rehearsing for a revival of Equus. He sadly committed suicide (aged 61) on 20th March 1976 by leaping from a hospital fire escape.
