MIKE BEUTTLER d1988. British F1 driver who raced privately entered March cars in the 1971-73 seasons making 29 starts scoring 0 championship points. A talented F3 graduate from the late 1960s who then graduated to F2 and then to Formula One in 1971. The finance for the team came from a group of stockbroker friends from whom the team took its name – firstly Clarke-Mordaunt-Guthrie Racing and then in 1973 it became Clarke-Mordaunt-Guthrie-Durlacher Racing. He raced on one occasion (at the 1971 Canadian GP) for the works March team. His career best result was a seventh place in the 1973 Spanish GP. He retired from racing the following year and eventually moved to the USA where he died of complications resulting from AIDS in 1988 aged just 48. As of 2014 he remains the only known openly-gay F1 driver
