MOODY BLUES. Enduring English prog rock band known for their distinctive sound first formed in Birmingham in the early 1960s and still touring today. They had their only No1 hit "Go Now" in 1964. The group over the years have undergone several lineup changes and are now probably best remembered for the classic "Nights In White Satin".

Collectors notation Brighton 27th November 1984. One of an absolutely outstanding mostly in-person autograph collection of over 500 items obtained by JD in Brighton & London during the late 1970's to 1990s. The majority being pop music acts of the period, along with actors and entertainers. The autographs are on records / fanzine magazine photographs and autograph book pages. Many are dedicated along with messages to the collector (Jonathan) and include dates & venues where they were obtained. There is a copy of a letter from him included (if required) that details his almost obsessive collecting exploits and memories of the time. An original 1965 piece of card laid down onto an autograph book page, clearly signed in ballpoints by all five original group members ; Denny Laine (left 1966) / Clint Warwick (left 1966) d2004 / Graeme Edge / Ray Thomas (retired 2002) and Mike Pinder AND a cutting (dated 3rd February 1976) from a visitors book, clearly signed in ballpoints by both Justin Hayward (joined 1966) and John Lodge (joined 1966) AND by the groups producer Tony Clarke (adding thanks for the money. On the autograph book page is an original promo-postcard photo and a piece of a shoelace (collectors notation saying belonging to Denny Laine).

 

Certification:

1) The 1965 page is from the autograph book of J Hardwicke containing many notable music acts of the period. As a teenager she collected them all attending concerts at Stourbridge Town Hall and the Wolverhampton Civic Hall. Some of the autographs are dedicated to her "Jane". There is a copy of a letter from her included further detailing her memories of the time. 2) The visitors book page is from a fantastic collection of visitors books dated between the mid 1960s to the mid 1980s, containing literally hundreds of celebrity signatures. The visitors books were collected by the staff and employees of Barclays Bank at Heathrow Airport during this period ; we assume this branch must have been located in or close to the VIP lounge. The autographs are almost all dated, many include the addresses of the signers and collectors notations / stamps by the original (bank employee) obtainers. Magazine page is from an extraordinary and very extensive (mostly) pop music collection (many on news-cuttings), obtained in the northwest of England during the 1960s by a Mr Norman Parr. We will include a copy of a 1964 letter sent by Mr Parr to Chuck Berry which indicates how he possibly obtained many of his autographs and mentions that his collection in May 1964 already exceeded 800 items.
