Peter Butterworth

PETER BUTTERWORTH d1979. English actor and comedian, best known for his appearances in the Carry On series of films. Out of the actors who were considered to be the main Carry On team, he was the sixth most prolific performer in the series ; making sixteen film appearances / two Christmas specials / the television series in 1975 and the west end theatre productions which also toured the country. His appearances mainly portrayed his characters as typically quiet and subtly eccentric, often being cast as a stooge for another character. He was also a regular on children's television / radio and was known for playing The Monk in Doctor Who. He died of a heart attack in Coventry aged 63 on January 16th 1979
