Richard Widmark

RICHARD WIDMARK d2008. American film, stage and television actor. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as the villainous Tommy Udo in his debut film, Kiss of Death (1947) for which he also won the Golden Globe for most promising newcomer. Early in his career he had specialized in similar villainous roles, but he later branched out into more heroic leading and support roles in westerns, mainstream dramas and horror films. He retired in 2001 and died aged 93 after a long illness on March 24th 2008 at his home in Conneticut. At the 2009 Academy Awards, he was honoured in the Memorial Tribute.
