About

About Rolling Stones

Rolling Stones

ROLLING STONES. English rock band formed in April 1962 in London when guitarist and harmonica player Brian Jones and pianist Ian Stewart joined vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards. Bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts completed the early lineup. After signing to Decca Records in 1963, the band changed their name from "The Rollin' Stones" to "The Rolling Stones". In 1963 Jagger and Richards formed their songwriting partnership and eventually took over leadership of the band as Brian Jones became increasingly troubled and erratic due to his drug addiction. After recording mainly covers of American blue and R&B songs, every studio record since the 1966 album Aftermath has featured mainly Jagger/Richards songs. Mick Taylor replaced Jones shortly before Jones' death in 1969. Taylor quit in 1974, and was replaced in 1975 by Faces guitarist Ron Wood who has remained with the band since. Stewart was removed from the official lineup in 1963 to continue as the band's road manager and occasional keyboardist until his death in 1985. Wyman left in 1992 and was replaced by Darryl Jones who is not an official band member but has been the primary bassist since 1994. First popular in the UK, The Rolling Stones toured the US repeatedly during the early 1960s "British Invasion". The Rolling Stones have released 22 studio albums in the UK (24 in the US), eight concert albums (nine in the US) and numerous compilations; and have album sales estimated at more than 200 million worldwide. Sticky Fingers (1971) began a string of eight consecutive studio albums reaching number one in the United States. In 1989 The Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame and in 2004 they ranked number 4 in Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked The Rolling Stones at number ten on their list of Greatest Artists of all time and as the second most successful group ever in the history of the Billboard charts.

The book contained many music notables of the early 1960s including ; The Rolling Stones / Bo Diddley and The Everly Brothers on consecutive pages along with Johnny Kidd and The Crystals. The Rolling Stones (on their first major British Tour) supported The Everly Brothers and Bo Diddley. The three played The Doncaster Gaumont on 12th October 1963, following research it is therefore fair to assume that this is most likely to be the actual signing date. The Keith Richard and Charlie Watts both came from different (London area) autograph books. "I Wanna Be Your Man" was the groups second single record released on 1st November 1963 reaching No12 in the UK charts. The Voodoo Lounge Tour was a worldwide series of concerts to promote their 1994 album of the same name. This was their first tour without bassist Bill Wyman who was replaced (though not officially) by Darryl Jones. The tour grossed $320 million, becoming the highest grossing tour of any artist at that time. This was subsequently overtaken by a few other others, but remains the groups second highest grossing tour behind their 2005-2007 A Bigger Bang Tour. Very Good. We would rate as 9/10. A very special and outstanding piece of 1995 Rolling Stones memorabilia that would grace any serious collection (despite NOT being signed by Mick Jagger). If his signature was included on this piece we believe the value would be doubled. We can supply a separate Mick Jagger signature (on a paper page) to make up the set if required. We have left the dedications to John on this item to support the provenance. It may be possible to professionally remove them or cover them over with a white paint-pen or tippex. We would not advise doing this, but it is left to the discretion of the purchaser.

ON THE REVERSE OF THIS PAGE are the Everly Brothers (1963) and Bo Diddley

1) EVERLY BROTHERS. Multi award winning American country pop duo known for their sibling close harmony singing. The most succesful ever US pop duo with 26 Top 40 single hits including classics ; "Bye Bye Love" (1957) / "Wake Up Little Suzie" (1957) / "All I Have To Do Is Dream" (1958) / "Cathys Clown" (1960). The group survived several acrimonius splits over their 50 year career, but continued to perform occasionally well into the 2000s. Phil Everly sadly recently died from lung disease aged 74 in January 2014.

A vintage 1963 autograph book page, clearly signed in ballpoints by both Phil and Don Everly PLUS group members Joey Paige (bass) and 17 year old drummer Jim Gordon AND Bo Diddley (dated 1963).

2) JIM GORDON. American Grammy Award winning musician and songwriter who was one of the most requested session drummers of the 1960-70s, recording albums with many well-known musicians of the time. He began his career in 1963 age seventeen with the Everly Brothers and went on to become one of the most sought-after recording session drummers in Los Angeles. The protégé of studio drummer Hal Blaine, he performed on many notable recordings of the 1960s including Pet Sounds (1966) by The Beach Boys / The Byrds (1968) / Classical Gas (1968) with Mason Williams. In 1969-1970, he toured as part of the backing band for the group Delaney & Bonnie with Eric Clapton which later became Derek & The Dominoes, recording the classic Layla (1970). He also played with the band on subsequent US and UK tours. The group split in spring 1971 before they finished recording their second album. During the 1970s, he toured and recorded with Joe Cocker / Dave Mason / Traffic / Harry Nilsson / Frank Zappa / Steely Dan and Alice Cooper amongst others. His life changed completely in 1983 when as an undiagnosed schizophrenic, he murdered his mother and was sentenced to sixteen years to life in prison. As of 2014 he has never been released ....

3) BO DIDDLEY d2008. American rock and roll guitarist singer-songwriter and inventor. He was known as "The Originator" because of his key role in the transition from the blues to rock & roll, influencing a host of legendary acts including Buddy Holly / Rolling Stones / Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. He introduced more insistent, driving rhythms and a hard-edged guitar sound on a wide-ranging catalogue of songs. Accordingly, he was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame and received several Lifetime Achievement Awards . He was known in particular for his technical innovations, including his trademark rectangular guitar.

A rare and highly desirable vintage 1963 set for a serious collector.
