ROY ORBISON d1988. American rock n roll singer nicknamed "The Big O" known for his distinctive tenor voice and trademark black sunglasses. Remembered for a string of classic 1960s ballads including ; Crying / Blue Bayou / Too Soon To Know and UK No1s "Only The Lonely" / "Its Over" / "Pretty Woman". Orbison endured a great deal of personal tragedy in his life ; losing his wife in a motorcycle accident in 1966 and two of his three sons in a house fire in 1968. His career peaked again in the 1980s with solo chart hits and his membership of pop supergroup The Travelling Wilburys. He died of a heart attack aged just 52 on December 6th 1988.
