SOFT CELL. English synthpop duo who came to prominence in the early 1980s, consisting of vocalist Marc Almond and instrumentalist David Ball. They are best known for their 1981 UK No1 hit single "Tainted Love" and their debut album of the same year "Non Stop Erotic Cabaret". In the UK, they scored ten Top 40 hit singles including ; "Tainted Love" (No1) / Torch (No2) / Say Hello Wave Goodbye (No3) / What (No3) and Bedsitter (No4). They also had four Top 20 albums between 1981 and 1984. In 1984, they split but reformed in 2001 to tour and record new material, releasing their fifth studio album "Cruelty Without Beauty" (2002).
