SPARTACUS. 1960 American epic historical drama film directed by Stanley Kubrick. The film was inspired by the life story of the leader of a slave revolt in antiquity, Spartacus and the events of the Third Servile War. The winner of four Oscars and nine nominations. At the time it was the highest grossing Universal Studios film ever taking $60 million USD. In 2008 the AFI voted it the fifth best epic film in cinema history.
