About Thin Lizzy

Thin Lizzy

THIN LIZZY. Irish hard-rock group first formed in Dublin in 1969. The band are best known for a succesion of classic rock anthems including ; "Whisky in The Jar" (1972) / "Jailbreak" / "The Boys are back in Town" and for using innovative twin lead guitar harmonies. The group experimented with many lead-guitar lineup changes over the years including ; Scott Gorham (1974-1983) / Brian Robertson (1974-1978) / Gary Moore d2011 (1974 & 1978-1979) and Snowy White (1980-1982). Their album "Live and Dangerous" was voted in 2004 by Classic Rock Magazine as the best live album ever. During his final years, legendary lead-singer & bassist Philip Lynott battled the demons with his alcohol and drug addiction. He sadly died on 4th January 1986 aged just 36.

ERIC BELL ; Despite Thin Lizzy gaining popularity during the early 1970s, the pressures of recording, touring and the excesses of the rock star lifestyle began to take their toll. He left the band after a New Year's Eve concert in 1973 ; throwing his guitar into the air in the middle of the concert, pushing the amplifiers into the audience and storming off stage. He stated later that he had no regrets about leaving : "I really had to leave because of ill-health. It was exhaustion, and the majority of things that were available to me... I couldn't really handle it ..........".

Quite simply the best Thin Lizzy 1975 period signed item we have ever had or seen, we would be amazed if there is another in existence. In early 1975, the group had toured the USA for the first time, in support of Bob Seger and Bachman Turner Overdrive. When BTO toured Europe later in the year to support their hit single "You Aint Seen Nothing Yet", Thin Lizzy again accompanied them on what was a very high-profile tour. They then recorded the Fighting album which became their first LP to chart in the UK, reaching No60. Opening with "Rosalie" the album showed the first real evidence of the twin guitar sound that would lead the band towards their greatest successes. After a successful multi-band tour in support of Status Quo they recorded the album "Jailbreak" (released on 26th March 1976) which proved to be their breakthrough. It featured the worldwide hit ; "The Boys are Back in Town" which reached No8 in the UK and No12 in the USA (their first charting record in that country). The twin guitar sound had been fully developed by this time and was in evidence throughout the album.

Certification:

Obtained on Saturday 6th December 1975 at the Middleton College Xmas Ball by Carolyn F who was the secretary of the events committee for the college. She was responsible for booking the bands that came to play at the venue whilst she was a student there during the mid-1970s. The tickets for these events were home-made (printed at the college) and sold to raise funds for charity (This is No580). There is a copy of a general letter from her included which details this further. Thin Lizzy were yet to hit the big-time when they played this concert in County Durham, but were during (December 1975-January 1976) recording their breakthrough album "Jailbreak" at Ramport Studios London. AFTAL Dealer No13 and UACC RD Memorabilia UK COA.

Condition:

Excellent (we would rate as 10/10). These tickets were home-made and printed at the college itself, so they are quite amateur-looking with some ink show through on both sides.
